Nawaratri Baja

During the festival of Dashain, Kathmandu residents would traditionally visit the main pilgrimage sites of the valley playing the nauratha baja. On the last day, the custom is to offer puja at Shanti Tirtha in Gaurighat, near the temple of Pashupati, and to float oil lamps representing the nine planets on the Bagmati River. Also seen in the picture is a group of pilgrims, men and women playing musical instruments. A thin fog begins to envelop the valley around this time of the year.
